How does variable data printing work?
Variable data printing services for business cards begin with a standard artwork design template and a set of unique data, including text, images, or design elements, to be printed on each individual card. Digital printing software is used to print the static artwork and variable data simultaneously, eliminating the need to create multiple variations of the artwork manually. With VDP for business cards, each card can be personalized with unique data without the hassle of creating each card individually.
What do I need to set up a VDP print run?
Designing variable data printing for business cards is an easy process. You only require a static artwork design file for the elements that are to remain the same on every business card and a spreadsheet document in CSV format that lists all the unique data to be printed. This simple process enables printing of various personalised business cards with unique data.
What if I want to print unique images on each item?
Personalizing business cards with variable images is a hassle-free process. Simply include each image’s file name within your database, and send a folder file that contains all the image files, along with the static artwork file and the database file. This way, variable data printing services can create business cards with unique images for each card, without any hassle.

How can I specify how VDP elements are arranged on my print design?
You can either leave a note with your order at the checkout, or if you’re using InDesign Photoshop or Illustrator, you can add placeholder text or graphics on a separate layer to the rest of your design.
Either way, we’ll send you a digital proof of your design which will indicate where the VDP elements are placed and how they’ll look on your final printed design. If you need to adjust the design before going to print, simply let us know!
